Left 4 Dead 2 Goes Live in 15 Hours!

There’s just over 15 hours to go until the much-anticipated Left 4 Dead 2 is released, and this Zombiephile can hardly wait! With new gameplay modes (Scavenge, Realism), new weapons (including the much-vaunted melee weapons), four new characters, and all new special zombies to slay, Left 4 Dead 2 promises to be a substantial improvement over the first Left 4 Dead zombie game.

Having survived a delayed demo, being banned in Australia (and subsequently unbanned after a dumbed-down, gore-free version was released there) and at least one consumer protest (some players felt it wasn’t a significant enough improvement over the first game to warrant being called a “sequel”), the Left 4 Dead 2 is the zombie game that just won’t stay down. Despite all the hubbub, all I can say is this: I’m excited.

Left 4 Dead was one of the funnest, if not the funnest zombie game I’ve ever played; the first time I fired it up, I was absolutely terrified. Left 4 Dead 2 is pretty scary, but what’s different about the sequel is the profound feeling of badassery that players (particularly this one) feel when they fire it up. The melee weapons give you a Shaun-of-the-Dead sense of self-confidence; players who used to hang back, picking off the odd zombie now charge ahead, electric guitar in hand, and slap the hell out of them.

We’re preloading the game on Steam right now and expect to be one of the first people to get online when the game becomes available (in about fifteen hours or so). If we can manage to tear ourselves away long enough to write a review, we’ll do so, but if you don’t hear from us for a while, you’ll know the reason why – we’ll be killin’ zombies.
