Brains Etc. (Activity Book) Zombie Survival for Kids! seemed like a good idea at the time, but it’s only available in e-book form…can’t exactly color the pages on a Kindle. Yes, you can transfer this to your computer to print out the pages, but it would have been nice if this was available in paperback, especially since it was made for the little zombiephiles.
My 6 yr old thought the drawings were funny, but some of the illustrations were repeated, such as the Zombie Apocalypse Shopping List, and I had mixed feelings about the shopping list itself…I think some items, such as “gun,” “helicopter” and “crank” should have been switched out for something a little more accessible for children. Then again, lots of kids go hunting with their own gun (and fantasize about hijacking various aircrafts, apparently). Being partial to blades myself, I was a bit disappointed that the list didn’t even include a Swiss Army knife.
There are several pictures of zombified kids, which aren’t exactly encouraging, and, oddly, the pictures listed personal interests. I don’t understand why one of them included a reference to “the films of Robert DeNiro.” Ever hear of a guy called George Romero?! Perhaps that is why those kids were zombies…because their parents didn’t raise them with the right movies.
The games looked fairly entertaining, but there seemed to be some inconsistency with the target audience…I wish it had been focused a little more on what kids would look for in a survival guide, rather than expecting kids to buy into cheesy jokes about Justin Beiber.
Overall, I think this would be a great gift for zombie fans with children, and for any zombiephile who likes to color in pictures of brains and zombie dogs. It’s definitely one more for the undead collection.
