Sharp-eyed and subtitle-friendly zombiephiles will well remember the breakout Spanish zombie movie, [REC], which took the world by storm a few years back. Shot in a jerky Blair Witch Project-esque handheld camera style, the entire movie took place in a quarantined apartment building chock full of zombies.
[REC] 2, the somewhat less excellent (although still good) sequel took place in that same apartment building, just hours later.
Now we’re getting our first look at [REC] 3: Genesis, the third of four movies in the series. [REC] 3 will be a prequel, helping to explain the genesis of the Spanish zombie plague, as well as fill in some of the blanks in the first two movies and set the stage for the finale, [REC] 4: Apocalypse.
We at the zombiephiles have loved this series since it first came out (and equally loved the American version of the first [REC] movie, Quarantine), and we’re fairly stoked to see the third one, which takes place at a wedding and which features, for the first time, the [REC] zombies out in the open and in broad daylight.
Hope you’ve been boning up on your Spanish, because the trailer isn’t translated. Any Spanish zombiephiles out there want to tell us what’s going on here besides awesomeness?
