Calling them to you

Ah, the age old question. Do you stay holed up in your relatively safe, reasonably fortified home, knowing that could face eventual zombie siege or do you strike out on your own, knowing that you're at the mercy of uncountable undead?

Calling them to you

If you've read world war z you know what i'm talking about. Chain swarm, when zombies moan upon hearing something and all other zombies hearing it moan and walk toward the place where it happened and so on and so forth. What about doing this once a month from your fortress and clearing out the area so that you will have less to deal with the rest of the time and never being caught by surprise.

I haven't read World War Z yet, but I like this idea... only if you've got the fire power though. If you're low on ammo, then obviously that wouldn't be wise. However, even if you are low on ammo, this would be a great way to lead them astray. Get someone who is in good shape/fast runner, who can start the chain swarm, and lead them all away from your fortess. Hmmmm, I'm getting ideas of setting up traps to lure the swarm into. Yeah, what about that? 'Course, who would want to be the decoy, though? Definitely not me!!

person with a dirtbike or horse, bad part of that though is traps almost never ensure a kill. Oh, it would take a while for me to run out of ammo, we, my team and I, have well over 20,000 rounds and two shell reloading kits.

Now, see, I've thought this one through - if you're really planning on facing down an endless, uncountable horde of zombies, you'd better come up with something better than shooting them or clubbing them in the head - you'll get repetitive motion syndrome before you've taken down 10,000 zombies. And we're talking about a lot, lot more than 10,000. I live in Beijing, that's 30 million potential zombies right there.

So here's my thinking on how you'd do it. You'd have to corral the zombies into a kind of pen-like area that has steep, sloping walls and an easy means of egress at the end you'll be planning on running toward.

Then you'd want to start a chain-swarm, WWZ style, and get as many of them into the place as you can. I'm thinking about a dried up canal like we have here in Beijing, or those huge flood drains that you saw in movies like "Terminator 2" - you could potentially squeeze a hundred thousand or so zombies into a space like that.

You'd want to have a a really, really epic amount of a highly flammable substance ready to go in advance - either poured off of bridges over the area in question or somehow pumped in through whatever draining or piping system happens to already be in there. You'd need tens of thousands of gallons of the stuff, so the easiest thing to do would be to grab yourself a few jet-refueling truck, fully loaded.

Then you'd park them over the canal full of zombies (keeping a watchful eye for swarmers from other directions) and you'd get someone to lead them into the canal (from as far away as possible, so you'll get a long line of zombies instead of a huge, encroaching circle). Then, once your man on the bike is through the canal and out the other side, you'd set the thing on fire and get as far away as possible. Flaming zombies are only a problem if they can get to you, right?

Sounds pretty impractical, and depends on a lot of variables that would be hard to control in a real-world outbreak, but I think non-weaponized plans of attack to deal with large volumes of zombies must be developed in advance of any potential outbreaks.

Any thoughts on how that plan could be suited or adapted to different kinds of locations and resources?

my town has 2,000 people and my state has about 1.5 mill. Not much worry about repetitive
motion syndrome. I'm thinking if you were on a mountaintop you could roll rocks down onto them.
