ZOMBIES + SCHOOL = BAD

Postby dean-venture » Mon Jun 04, 2007 11:06 pm

My friends float this one around all of the time...it's tempting to immediately think about heading to the high school on the hill when the zombies come...but here's my thinking on it:

Zombies are psychologically damaging enough on their own. Do you really want to face down the possibility of several hundred (my school) to several thousand child zombies? That would fry a person's brains, for sure...

I say ZOMBIES + SCHOOL = BAD

ZOMBIES+ANYWHERE=BAD

If you're worried about killing a child than thats the first problem, an adult zombie would have no problem killing a live child. Use you're head damn it. When they come prepare to take out family, friends, women and children. No place is safe for long. Stay the shortest amount of time, survey the area, alternate exits, supplies. A school has food, get what you can and leave. There isn't much else a school can offer. too many rooms to look through, too little time, you can never be sure you're alone in zombie free school.

Bah! Schools.

Max Brooks has basically the same opinion - in the Zombie Survival Guide he says that schools can be a good, defensible location, but since the layout of every school is different, there's no telling what you're going to find when you walk in the door. What looks like a fortress could turn out to be a maze full of zombies - and then where would you be?

I say stick to places that you know - home or work, and avoid public places. The higher you can get, the better, and since lots of schools have only one story or have lots of windows surrounding their first floor, that makes them bad for zombie defense.

I say, find a tall building and barricade the stairs with furniture like they did in 28 Days Later!

Well instead of barricading the stairway, might as well get that hammer and tear the stairs out, they can't climb.

Well i would not go to a school that's just horrible, the school could be free, maybe they were evacuated in time (so i doubt a horde of zombies gonna travel there, but if there was no evacuation and they all died, then a shcool is no option to go, it has nothing to give but food from the canteen (if the school has one) water from water services (taps, toilets, showers etc.). Also u can find loads of writing stuff if u need it lol, paper, loads of paper, also computers :D, but other stuff than that, i doubt it, maybe u get the chance to find an empty .32 revolver from the school director who blew his brains up lol. Well if i was in school while it happens then go to the roof with trustworthy people (exit the school if its not sorrounded yet), after reaching the roof i can wait and phone for help which will do me no good unless i had a rich friend who owned a chopper lol. + my school where iw as would be har dto escape form the roof, i could use the pipes to climb down halfway through, then jump to the fence that goes to the football pitch (its always closed, it would be a stupid coincidence for zombies to appear when someone is having physicla education or the gate was magically unlocked, therefore there would not be any zombies on the other side) then climb the toher side of the fence, go through the field which leads to the highway, not many zombies out there i guess, unless by another film/videogame ridiculous coincidence, i appeared at the wrong time.

I think going to any public, and potentially crowded, location is a very bad idea. You don't want to be surrounded by a bunch of frightened, noisy people who will only succeed at getting the attention of nearby zombies. You will find yourself surrounded and trapped in no time.
