I have a personal favorite combination of weapons for the invasion. I have a Louisville Slugger myself, and was very pleased to see it on the list of weapons you already own. It's ready to go and I always know exactly where it is. This will be my primary weapon. Now as we all know, the Slugger needs a little wind up to really be effective. For the most part, I think it's reasonable to think you can keep your distance unless the horde really builds up. This leads me to my backup weapon. In case the zombies begin to press in, I plan to carry a good high calibur handgun with a high capacity. You want to open a path to be able to wield that Slugger effectively, and a handgun with a lot of punch can accomplish this. Make sure you have a full ammo belt as well. You'll eventually need to reload. As you cut your way through the masses, keep your eyes open for escape and thin spots. Maneuverability is your most precious weapon.

Ditto on the Duo - But Don't Forget to Mod that Bat!
I hear you on the dual-weapons; while distance is always preferable when tackling zombies, they tend to get grabby, which can make it hard to swing.
I think one thing you can do to keep that slugger useful up-close is to mod it out, say, put some solid nails in the end of it, mace it out a little bit. Get medieval.
And, of course, a .50 AE Desert Eagle with an 8 inch barrel never hurts up close - if you can lift it. But who's got the loot for that? In a pinch, I'll take any handgun.
