Zombies and their relationship to dogs

Postby spiff » Sun Sep 07, 2008 9:16 am

My friend and I were having a debate about zombies and how they interact with dogs.
He says on "Dawn of the Dead" that zombies tend to stay away from dogs. However, I have seen zombie dogs in lots of different types of media so to me it doesn't seem to be a firm rule. This debate was started after someone mentioned that they could cut off a dogs skin and put it around their body to ward off zombies. Your thoughts?

first off, whoever thought up that idea needs to be shot. Not because of cruelty to animals, but overpowering and total stupidity. Second, I tend to believe that Zombies would eat just about anything alive or recently deceased. Welcome to Zombiephiles spiff :D

Hmmm, a good question here, really. Because as spiff mentions, in the new version of Dawn of the Dead with Ving Rhames, the undead leave the dog totally alone. But in other media, ie: Resident Evil, those undead rotweilers (spelling?) are quite frightening to any survivor. And though I agree with railfun about it being unusually cruel to skin a dog to save your own skin (as I mentioned in another post that having a dog around for guard duty (or guard dog duty) could be quite helpful), one would have to think about their own survival. Now, don't get me wrong railfun, there are WAY more dogs I'd rather save than humans, but one can't repopulate the earth with dogs.

But the point is, I believe that zombies would attack any living thing, either animal or human. It only makes sense. They crave flesh and brains, and animals have both as well. To me, it wouldn't make sense that zombies would leave dogs alone, and only go after humans. Wearing a dog skin would only get you eaten... and rightly so! Poor poochie!

I think they'd just eat what they can, and depending on what virus it would be, it could also transform them as well, even toher animals, but as we know there are certain viruses that dont do anything to some creatures but will harm us, so it's up to nature to decide. 8)
