Zombie questions are always tough questions. Bladed weapons require sharpening, training and remain dangerous to people around the wielder. Blunt weapons are heavy, unwieldy and dangerous to the wielder - hitting zombies hurts as much as hitting people.
So really the question is a good one - do you prefer bladed weapons or blunt weapons against a zombie? What about many zombies?
I say blunt weapons, with a short bladed weapon as a backup. For most people, this will be adequate defense against zombies and the undead - unless you're a samurai warrior or something, I wouldn't recommend trying to get all ninja scroll on any zombies.
Blunt!
Tough Question.

Blunt indeed zombiephile. It isn't so much an issue of which is more effective. My issue is which can I personally wield with good results. I am not trained in edged weapons of any kind, but just about all of us have taken a swing at a baseball in our lives. I know how to hit a melon-sized or smaller object with my hardwood battle mace known as the Louisville Slugger.
Blunt for me too please.

Wow. the baseball bat is an amazing idea. but it is always nice to keep something sharp and bladed weapon at your side. blunt objects will most likely take a lot more energy or swings than a nice sharpened machete,(just in case you get tired) I think it would take less energy to swing a machete at the throat.
i like sharp with blunt as backup

Blunt or Bladed?
I would have to agree with cut the blue wire here guys. While Zombiephile has a good point about blunt weapons not needing sharpening, I think you can do more damage on the initial attack with a bladed weapon. I would think that if you hit a zombie in the head with a bat, you could knock it down, but then you have to take the time to bash in it's skull, to make sure it doesn't get up.
But if you can hack it's head off with a swipe from a bladed weapon, i.e. a sword, then that zombie is down for the count, and you can focus on the next one, or your next plan of attack. Of course, Zombiephile brought up another good point, who of us are trained in the way of the katana? I own a rather sharp katana, but don't know how to wield it properly. Yeah, I've seen dozens of ninja movies and the like, but to accurately wield it is another thing. However, I think one could just use a sword like you would use a bat. Just swing away!

Re: Tough Question.
It's not really which is better, it's just which do you prefer. Baseball bats and swords are all fine. The thing is, what if the invasion happens while you are work or school. If you are lucky enough to be prepared, just use what you like best, and what you practice with the most. I have a nice axe that I use a lot, and Im good with it. I keep it sharpened, and I know I could take down a zombie with it.

If it's a one on one fight then I am confident I could take out a zombie with my shoes (while on my feet of course) your first line of assault should always be a gun though

well a sharp weapon could definately do some major damage but, if it was to get stuck say in the skull and the zombie isnt dead you are now unarmed and this thing is still coming. a blunt weapon can do some major damage also but you have to waste alot of energy to kill the damn thing , you have to keep hitting it to kill it. by time u kill one u need a nap b4 killin another one. i personally would keep a sword on my back an ax at my hip and a very hard and heavy bat in my hand that has a rope attached incase it gets heavy.

I'd have to go with bladed. You REALLY don't need any training to know "Sharp side in direction of swing, pointy end away from you." It's not like you're going to be dueling with the damn things!
Thats in an ideal world though, since I don't have the luxury of owning a good katana.

there is an awesome new sledgehammer called the BamFuBar. It is nothing less than pure melee bliss. Although I probably wouldn't use one because it would be too tiring per kill.

I also think it would depend on the zombies. If I'm fighting the zombies from the original Dawn of the Dead, the weapon would vary than if I was fighting the zombies from the remake of Dawn of the Dead.

Re: Tough Question.
I would say blunt. Not everyone owns a katana or a machete, so they would be stuck using knives. I will admit, I have seen pretty big kitchen knives, however none of them are of greater or equal length to a crowbar. I say blunt.

LOL! Very true, and great point Mekanic! We wouldn't be dueling these things. Excellent, so I'm good with my katana then!

Re: Tough Question.
i'm going with bladed. both are good, but a headshot with a bat may not drop them for keeps. take off the top of the head with a katana and it's game over.

I would definitely go with blunt...less chance of getting blood all over you. Something like a spiked mace has some serious crushing power. Once hard hit to the head and that zombie is DONE!
