I personally opt for staying - but only if you've got a workable escape plan in the event that the siege outside becomes unbreakable. Roaming out and about in the midst of a zombie outbreak sounds promising, but as we know from reading books like World War Z and the Zombie Survival Guide, there are all kinds of threats out there besides zombies that are just as deadly.
I say, establish as large and secure a perimeter as possible, with escape routes planned in advance. If you have to leave, leave, but if you don't have to leave, there's no reason to go out and expose yourself to the elements...
Stay, but only if you can run

I agree! I think the reason most people have to run in the first place is that they were unprepared in some way. (That or they know someone who wasn't prepared and have to save them) They either need food, ammo, or their girlfriend or mom. So I agree. Prepare for a siege and you can survive one. But if you have to go, be ready for that too. My friends and I bought an old chevy van as a hobby vehicle, and if we need to go, we can go with plenty of room, and reasonable protection. Actually, the van would make an excellent moving bunker. A few welded plates here, a pointed cattle catcher on the front for plowing power. I think we'd be just fine if we had to rescue someone or procure supplies.
Still, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Be ready!

Different Stages of Zombie Infection
See, I've started to look at it the way that Max Brooks does - you have to know what kind of zombie outbreak you're talking about here. Is the a localized, zombies-are-eating-my-neighbors kind of thing, or is this a global, zombies-have-eaten-the-government sort of thing where we can't really look forward to rescue?
See, these two zombie scenarios couldn't be more different. In the first, I think that barring yourself inside your home, if prepared right, could definitely work out fine. Wait it out, stay quiet, avoid exposure to zombies, and wait for the government to come in and mop it up.
But if we're talking about a long-term outbreak, a zombie pandemic, where the governments are either in exile or non-existent, than perhaps a different strategy is needed...
I think that if I was to realize that the government was never going to help me, I'd feel compelled to leave my home, however well defended, in the hopes of reuniting with whatever isolated pockets of humanity might remain...think about heading out someplace super-secure from zombies, where we could start rebuilding, starting a new life...

That's a really good point. I hadn't really thought about it that way. I mean, rescue might still be something you need to do, but if you're reasonably prepared otherwise, then a local outbreak is endurable. So save who you can, and hunker down. If the outbreak is bigger; national or worldwide, then you would definitely have to start thinking about the long haul and where you're going to rebuild. Might pay to have a contingency plan with your local zombiephiles in place before the siege happens. A meeting place after a certain time and such. Then, in force you could work to make it someplace more secure.

My home is surrounded by woods. And I've cut back alot of the trees to make a really great killzone. I know it would work!!

Re: Stay, but only if you can run
I agree 100%. I live in a two family apartment building which is suprisingly well made for a zombie attack. There are only 2 doors and 3 windows that are in reach from the ground so it will be very easy to board up and the building is made of bricks so I wont have to worry about a little fire. In my neighborhood the houses are very close to each other so I can get a 2 foot ladder and use it as a bridge to join the house right next to me. Zombies wont be able to jump across to get in my house when im gone because I will always have a guard inside the building. There are also enough supplies in my area so I wont have to make big trips to yonkers (which is a 15 minute drive but im probably gonna use a bike and save the gas for big 4 man home depot raids). And if the zombies breach my area I know a great place to the north that will be more than fortified.

I join you guys. Some smart survivors like us,intro the same group, and we have 100% changes of making it out.
We should try to use a house on a damaged terain, that will slow the zombies down, more time to shot them out befoe they reach us.Some spikes made from wood,at the main entrances,to slow them even more,a killzone,a fortified car near a escape point, with supplies,we just get in and run in case. We can hold out there until we die of old age
cheer, unite smart survivors,we can make it out,we must be prepared.
