Steal it from the neighborhood punks.

If you've got animal-handler gloves sitting in your closet next to a shovel, you might be a Zombiephile. What kind of personal protection do you use? Think body armor would be effective against zombies? Find out in our forums.

The best head protection is a skateboarding helmet, giving you good amount of protection, without blocking you're vision.

Just say "No!" to helmets!

Postby Ash » Tue Jun 05, 2007 4:09 pm

I'm a purist - I say no helmets altogether! Here's my thinking:

Zombies don't really go for the head. Most of the time it seems like they either get you completely - i.e., zombie hordes eat like 90% of you, in which case a helmet wouldn't really have helped, or they just nick you - get you on an appendage someplace.

In the movies we always see zombies going for the neck - but I think that's just because it's really easy to put a blood pack on the neck and it makes for excellent on-camera gore.

I think helmets are useless! Just wear a jacket with a high collar to protect your neck and don't let them get close enough to mess with your head!

Although I guess for some of us, wearing a motorcycle helmet all of the time might not be a bad idea, zombie apocalypse or not.

helmet is needed for other things, it would suck to be 3 weeks after z-day riding a dirtbike down the street when you suddenly crash and die from head trauma.

Railfun makes a good point - there's plenty of things out there besides zombies that'll get you killed...and of course, there's no one around to put you back together if you do mess your stuff up.

So remember, people, don't ride your bike faster than 60 MPH after the zombies come - it's just not safe.

I think having a helmet is a good choice, not necessarily to protect you against zombies. The last thing you want is to accidentally run into something and knock yourself unconscious. If you're wearing proper head gear all the time, your chances of accidentally hitting yourself against something is much less, thereby increasing your chances of survival.
